Whole house water softener system
A whole house water softener system treats hard water at the point it enters your home so every outlet—showers, faucets, appliances, and plumbing—receives softened water. Systems typically use ion-exchange resin to remove calcium and magnesium (the minerals that cause hardness) and replace them with sodium or potassium ions. Benefits include:
Reduced scale buildup in pipes, water heaters, and appliances, extending their life and maintaining efficiency.
Improved performance of soaps and detergents, producing better lather and cleaner dishes, laundry, and surfaces with less product.
Softer-feeling skin and hair after showering.
Easier cleaning with fewer mineral spots on fixtures and glass.
Potential energy savings from more efficient water heaters and scale-free plumbing.
Key components and options
Mineral tank (resin tank): Contains the ion-exchange resin that softens water.
Brine tank: Holds the salt or potassium used for regenerating the resin.
Control valve/regenerator: Manages flow, backwash, and regeneration cycles. Options include timer-based, meter-based (demand-initiated regeneration), and hybrid controllers.
Pre- and post-filtration: Sediment or carbon filters can protect the resin and improve taste/odor when needed.
Bypass and drain connections: Allow service without shutting off water to the home.
Sizing and selection considerations
Water hardness (grains per gallon or ppm): Measured from a water test; determines the softening capacity required.
Household water usage: Average daily gallons used by the household influences system sizing and regeneration frequency.
Resin capacity and regeneration efficiency: Higher-capacity resin and efficient controllers reduce salt use and maintenance frequency.
Space and installation: Footprint and plumbing configuration affect placement; some homes may need a AIO for well water with high iron, sulfer content or high-sediment supplies.
Maintenance
Regularly check and replenish salt or potassium in the brine tank.
Keep the brine tank clean and free of bridging or mushing.
To prevent salt from bridging or mushing, allow the salt level to drop until water is visible at the bottom of the tank. Keep in mind that running out of salt will not cause any damage.
Replace pre- and post-filters per manufacturer recommendations.
Periodic professional inspection ensures valves, seals, and controls function correctly.
Common concerns
Sodium content: Ion-exchange softening adds a small amount of sodium to softened water. For households concerned about sodium intake, consider using potassium chloride or install a reverse-osmosis drinking-water system at the kitchen tap.
Environmental and discharge considerations: Brine discharge from regeneration may be regulated locally; check municipal or utility requirements.
Hardness-sensitive appliances: Some appliances (e.g., certain steam irons or aquariums) may require specific water quality—verify manufacturer guidance.
Choosing a system
Test your water for hardness and common contaminants.
We will build each unit to accommodate the intended number of occupants and typical household usage.

Whole RV Water Softener
Choosing a whole-RV water softener ensures consistent, reliable soft water throughout your mobile home — protecting plumbing, appliances, fixtures, and improving washing and bathing. For RV owners, a properly sized and configured whole-RV softener delivers the same benefits as a home system while meeting space, flow, and regeneration constraints unique to recreational vehicles.
Key considerations
Capacity & sizing: Calculate grain capacity based on typical water use and incoming water hardness. RV use is variable; common small whole-RV systems range from 8,000 to 16,000 grains. Choose a capacity that balances regeneration frequency with available space and water supply.
Flow rate: Ensure the softener’s peak flow rate matches your RV’s simultaneous demand (showers, sinks, and appliances). Aim for 4–8 gallons per minute (gpm) for most Class A/B motorhomes and larger trailers; smaller units may be adequate for compact rigs.
Physical size & installation footprint: Compact cylinders and slimline tanks are preferable. Consider vertical vs. horizontal mounting, cabinet clearance, and weight distribution. Some systems mount under a sink or in a utility compartment.
Power & controls: RV softeners use simple metered or time-based controls. Simpler mechanical controls reduce power needs and potential failure points.
Regeneration and water supply: RVs have limited gray/black tank capacity and sometimes limited freshwater supply. We offer systems with demand-initiated regeneration (metered) that minimize wasted water. Consider using potable campground water for regeneration when available.
Bypass and isolation: A reliable bypass valve is essential so you can isolate the softener for service or when using non-potable water sources that don’t require softening.
Materials and durability: Corrosion-resistant tanks with stainless steel bypass with service and fittings, highest-quality resin that I have been told it is made in the USA.
Maintenance: adding salt, Check your timer and that’s about it.

Frustrated by the prevalent practices of large corporations that prioritized profit over quality, my father founded Waterhouse Purification Inc. in response to the growing trend of installing equipment with subpar absorption rates for essential minerals like calcium and magnesium, coupled with the use of non-serviceable plastic valves. He believed in the fundamental right of consumers to access superior water treatment solutions that not only enhanced their health but also upheld durability and serviceability. By focusing on innovative, high-performance systems, my father set out to redefine industry standards and ensure that every household could enjoy the benefits of clean and revitalizing water.
